El Porton is one of my top go-to's when craving Mexican food. Their guacamole is made fresh at your table, and is one of the better recipes I have found. Their fajitas taste good and are plenty to split between two people. Service and atmosphere have always been good, as well - fast and efficient. They are a solid Mexican food option.

The best authentic Mexican restaurant in town! Anything on the menu is great but my favs are the chicken fajitas, Mexican guacamole, queso, chicken and rice soup (anytime I feel under the weather- that soup- yum!) and frozen peach margaritas. They give you plenty of food and the price is right! Any other Mexican restaurant we've been to- my test is how my son likes the beans and rice- this place is his favorite too! Great food and great people. Hope it will be your fav too!

If your looking for authentic Mexican food definitely not your place. First way I judge a good Mexican restaurant is by the chips and salsa. Bring your own. This salsa tasted exactly like Pace, which I hear they make in New York. I had enchiladas with rice and beans. Not much to say the meal was totally BLAND not a hint of flavor in any of it. Obviously I will not return, luckily we had a $15 gift card so I got to keep most of money which is sad because my greenbacks probably had more flavor then those Kroger bought refried beans.

Best Mexican food in the Little Rock metro. Their chips and salsa are delicious and have just the right amount of heat. Try the Toluca burrito. It's filled with seasoned fajita chicken, chorizo and pineapple and served with rice and beans. Their beans, by the way, are fantastic.

Surprisingly good! My wife and I were planning on going to the On The Border a few blocks away, but the wait was almost an hour, so we started looking for other options. We headed to El Porton, and at first I was a bit skeptical. the fact that they have a drive-thru bugged me, I'll admit. And the decorations are a bit cheesy-looking, inside and out. But don't let any of that fool you. The food is great! It's typical of fast-service, value-priced Mexican places, but who doesn't like big portions of good food at cheap prices? The chips, salsa and guacamole were all excellent (the guac was better than OTB's), and the dinners were tasty. The margaritas were even really good (we got a pitcher of the semi-premium kind, can't remember what they called them). When I walked in, I was expecting food that tasted frozen and margaritas that were more corn syrup than tequila. Instead, I got delicious, well-executed, home-style Mexican food. Definitely worth the trip.

This place is a chain, but it is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in Little Rock. Not to mention Arkansas Daily Deals frequently offers coupons which make it one of the cheapest restaurants in Little Rock =) The food is excellent. Everything I've ever ordered has been absolutely delicious. My current favorite is the California burrito. No kidding, it is literally about a foot long, And stuffed with rice, black beans, pico de gallo, cheese, and wither chicken or beef., and then covered in cheese sauce. Oh my Jesus, this burrito is amazing. We've also had the chicken fundido (chicken covered with sauteed bell peppers, onions & cheese), the Chorio-pollo (chicken & chorizo served with a side of warm tortillas, beans & rice) and the Burrito Jalisco (tortilla filled with slow cooked, shredded pork, topped with lettuce, tomato & guacamole, beans & rice on the side). Everything is amazing. The small pitcher of margaritas is the best value. Super cheap and we got about 6 drinks from it. The guacamole made tableside is amazing. And I could eat the salsa with a spoon. And I'm going to stop now because I'm so hungry I could die.

This is by far the best Mexican restaurant in Central Arkansas (Warden Road location in North Little Rock AR)! The staff are friendly and make you feel at home. The food is totally authentic and no other restaurant compares in overall total package. We had a birthday dinner for my younger brother last night and the atmosphere was perfect with lots of laughter, plenty of chips, salsa, queso, drinks and dishes that were classic and new for my family to try which all were full and happy when we finally left the restaurant. The staff sang Feliz Compleanos and brought out a complimentary dessert and donned my brother with the house birthday sombrero! :D my favorite part of the evening! So if you are looking for a great Mexican restaurant where you know you will get the best service, the best prices and the best Mexican food- stop reading this review and go there now (or when you are ready for Mexican food)! There is a nice patio for the smoking clientele and they accommodate parties large and small. Ask for a frozen peach margarita (if you are of age of course)! AND they have $1.30 (I think $1.29 but cannot remember the exact price) Tuesday Taco night which is awesome! Enjoy!!

I ate here the other evening, it was not impressive at all. I live in the very Deep South, hours from Mexico and this was not authentic.

Good food, good margs, good service. I prefer this Mexican restaurant's food over Santo Coyote which is down the road.

I love love love their guacamole that they make at the table and will customize according to your wishes. I usually plan to order something different as my meal but I always end up ordering the shrimp ceviche which is filling but feels healthy. The service is quick and they are attentive. Prices are reasonable. We go there with friends and family often and no one has ever been disappointed with their meal. Adding this on 1/8/13. I have taken one star away. They changed how they make the cerviche and I don't like the new way at all. I'm so bummed. We used to eat there a couple of times a month and now I dread going when my husband wants to go because I miss the cerviche salad made with whole shrimp instead of chopped and I haven't found anything else that is as healthy (low carbs) as that one was. It is no longer my favorite Mexican restaurant although the guacamole is still delicious and the prices are reasonable.

This was our 1st visit to El Porton. We are traveling through the area and stopped at another place that had been recommended to us. The waiting list there was close to an hour so we decided not to wait. Just a bit further up the road was El Porton (another recommended place), and best of all, no waiting. It was the end of a very long day of moving our belongings from one travel trailer into a new one we had just purchased. So we were exhausted to say the least. El Porton is best Mexican food we have experienced since moving from AZ. My wife had the chicken chimichanga and a guacamole salad and I had the Ceviche from the appetizer menu. The chimi was absolutely wonderful. Light crispy tortilla with a very nice creamy sauce and the chicken was moist and perfectly seasoned. The salad was fresh and very tasty. Nicely prepared. The Ceviche (shrimp) was hands down the best I've ever had! The hint of lime, cilantro, tomatoes, fresh Jalapeños, all expertly prepared made this dining experience one of the best. The chips were light and crisp and the salsa was very tasty. If we lived in the area or next time we pass through, El Porton is our 'go to ' place for the best Mexican food!

It's been years since I was in any El Porton location and this was my first visit to this location. The interior is a festive affair with fun Mariache type music piped in. Right after was seated fresh chips and salsa arrived. The chips were great, hot and crispy. I liked the salsa too, it was nicely spiced but not too hot. Fresh tasting ingredients, I would not call it chunky exactly but not pureed either,it was just right. I had a small cheese dip, which would be perfect for two. It was of the white cheese variety and was quite good. For my entree I had the Chili Verde and was it good! The menu is quite extensive and has something for everyone no matter what sort of Mexican dish your craving. I decided on the Chili Verde and was impressed. According to the menu the big chunks of pork are courtesy of the good folks at Hormel and the quality shows. They were served in a mildly spicy tomatillo sauce that was quite good. The side of rice was some of the best I've had in recent times. The refried beans had a great flavor but were a little on the thin side, not that the thiness detracted, they were just a little thinner than I expected. The service was quite good, attentive and proficient. To be honest I enjoyed it more than any Mexican meal I've had in a long while. If you haven't been to this El Porton check it out, I think you'll like it. BTW, my visit was at around 2pm in the afternoon and the place was pretty busy, that's always a good sign.

Tuesday nights I'm in the drive-through picking up tacos. Easily my favorite tacos from any place. Loaded with shredded white cheese, meat nicely spiced and not drowing from a steam tableof grease/water. But the real find on their menu is the tortilla soup. Flavorful broth loaded with a very generous portion of chicken and vegetables along with a slice of avocado. Some of the best soup you'll find anywhere. Service is always friendly.

Found a coupon, and we like mexican food, so we went! I got the "special dinner" which is sort of a sampler. The "Chile Relleno" was by far, the best thing in my meal. The Horchata flavored agua fresca was really good, and my wife's house margarita was good, too. The salsa was okay, and her chicken tortilla soup was pretty tasty (the bowls are huge). Service was fast, prices reasonable. -- Updated 10 Nov, we went for another meal here, and it was ***** - really good, we got different dishes this time. Again, the Chile Relleno rocked, and the fajitas were very good. Service was quick, as usual.

I was driving through Amarillo on my way across the country and this place claimed to have REAL Mexican food so I thought it was worth a stop. The staff were so nice, my waiter was super cute and really eager to please. I was there during happy hour so I had a nice $2.50 margarita which was definitely worth the price. They also made me guacamole at my table and made it spicy! I had a taco combination plate that was really good and there was even enough to take some home. I would recommend this place when you are craving Mexican for sure!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
